The main subjects of the Centre are: storms, strong winds, extreme temperatures, floods, landslides, droughts, forest fires, desertification, sea level elevation, sea intrusion in groundwater aquifers, earthquakes, and submarine landslides. Under the auspices of the Centre all the laboratories of the School of Rural and Surveying Engineering are participating serving among others the following activities: Remote Sensing, Satellite & General Geodesy, Photogrammetry, Chartography, GIS, Qualitative and Quantitative Methods, Foresight, Geomechanics, Water Resources Management, Hydrology, Hydraulics, Hydrography, Environmental Issues, Urban and Regional Planning, Spatial Analysis and Cadastre.

European Workshop "Risks and Hazards in the Coastal Areas”

On the 27th January 2005 the workshop “Risks and Hazards in the Coastal Areas” took place at the National Technical University of Athens. The workshop was convened in the framework of the Interreg IIIB European project CADSEALAND. The organiser of the workshop was the Laboratory of Reclamation Works and Water Resources Management. Among the topics presented were tsunami hazard, climate change, dam break risks, sea water intrusion, satellite monitoring of the coastal area, sea level analysis, etc. The main list of presentations at the Workshop is attached.
